We are camping at Maure, 12 miles from Messac tonight.  Slept under a strawstack last night and nearly froze to death. There were 5 of us together, Nayle, Ritter, Finncan, Jasper & I. Made the hike over here in 4 hours with full packs and was pretty tired when we reached here but am O.K. now. Pitched tents with Doyle and went up town for cider. Same sort of town as Messac. We all got together tonight and sang songs. Captain bought some sweet non-intoxicating stuff for us to drink in place of water. It was pretty good. Lots of cognac around tonight. Donnelly got lit, got into the Captain’s tent and thinking it was Kramer, asked him if he wanted a drink. Went to bed early as we had to get up early.
