August 26, 1918/ Sunday (Camp Coetquidan) War Diary: weary from marching

Well, we finally got here (Camp Coetquidan) and I never had such a trip. Corrigan had an awful time making it. It was awful. Uphill most of the time (14 miles) and loose stones part of the way. Reached camp about 10:45 a.m. and are quartered in stone barracks with cement floors. Saw Gus and Coffman today as we came into camp. They are attending schools here. This is a large artillery camp and most all artillery units receive their last training here before leaving for the front. Expect to draw guns in a few days. All the boys are quite sore and weary tonight and I am writing this in bed 7:30 My feet are like two blisters.

Doyle and I are sleeping together in my supply room. We each have a 9 m. cot so are pretty comfortable. The rest of the boys are sleeping on the cement floors.
