Nov 13, 1918/ Wednesday (Pont a Mousson) War Diary: No Man's Land
(for map of Pont a Mousson click here)
Landed here at Pont a Mousson at about 4 o’clock this p.m. after a hard hike all day with full packs and no dinner. Had hardly any sleep at all last night as Cpt. Brady came in about midnight and told us to be ready to move at daybreak. Sgt. Price came in soon after and told me to blow my whistle at 3:30 & get everyone up. Well we left Boullionville at 8:30 and took the road through Thiaucourt & crossed the river there. Came through country that had been fought over since 1914. No Man’s Land was just one tangled mass of barbed wire as far as we could see in both directions.
Passed many graves of American artillery men (21 F.A.) In one place. Doughboys are buried all around in the woods and Hun graves are all over. Saw a huge tank that was wrecked in "no man’s land" and several airplane wrecks. Robbed a truck this noon, loaded with bread.
