Nov 5, 1918 (Boullionville) War Diary: air attacks
(for map of Boullionville click here)
Kitchen & supply wagons moved up to Boullionville, last night about 9 p.m. as we had breakfast with Btry C this a.m. Had Bully Beef & coffee with no bread. Out exploring again this a.m. Saw lots of German graves and several American. Saw an aeroplane battle this noon. 4 Yank planes shot a German plane down. About 3:30 p.m. we were all standing around when all of a sudden two Hun planes shot down out of the clouds and attacked the 15 Balloon Co’s observation balloon. A hot machine gun fight followed but the balloon caught fire and two observers jumped with parachutes. When the planes passed over us they were flying low and we all opened up on them with our revolvers. Several Yank planes took after them but they got away.

Soon after Doyle came in with orders for us to move to Boullionville as soon as it was dark, so we made up our rolls and loaded up the wagons. A German plane swooped down on the wagon that Doyle came in on and opened its machine gun on them but no one was hurt.
